Weno vs TripIt
Two travel apps that solve different stages of the trip. Here's when to use which — and when to use both.
Last updated: May 2026
Short version: TripIt is the best-known confirmation-email aggregator — it turns a messy inbox of booking confirmations into a clean trip timeline. Weno handles the stage before that exists: picking a place with friends, booking it, and splitting the cost. They're complementary more than competitive.
What each app actually does
TripIt
An itinerary aggregator. You forward confirmation emails (or grant mailbox access) and TripIt parses flights, hotels, car rentals, and reservations into a single timeline. Its Pro tier adds real-time flight alerts, alternate-flight finder, and seat tracking. It doesn't plan trips, book stays, or split costs between travelers.
Weno
A group travel app focused on the planning and booking stage. You start a trip, invite friends, search stays, vote, book, and split in one place. The trip dashboard becomes the timeline as bookings happen inside the app.

When to choose TripIt
- You travel often, alone, and just want one place to see every confirmation.
- You want real-time flight alerts and alternate-flight tracking.
- The bookings are made — you just need to organise them.
When to choose Weno
- You travel in a group and the planning falls apart between WhatsApp, Airbnb tabs, and a half-finished spreadsheet.
- You want the booking and the cost split to happen together, not separately.
- Solo trips you book through Weno also get a dashboard — but TripIt is stronger if most of your bookings come through email.
Common questions
Is Weno a TripIt alternative?
Weno covers a different stage of the trip than TripIt. TripIt is excellent at aggregating itineraries you've already booked — it parses confirmation emails into a single timeline. Weno is for the planning and booking stage that happens before the confirmation emails exist, plus the group coordination and cost-splitting TripIt doesn't handle.
Does TripIt handle cost splitting?
No. TripIt is an itinerary aggregator. It tracks flights, hotels, and reservations as a unified timeline but does not compute or settle costs between travelers. For a group trip, you'd still need a separate tool (Splitwise, a spreadsheet, or Weno) to handle splits.
Does Weno aggregate confirmation emails like TripIt does?
Not currently. Weno keeps the trip in-app: when you book through Weno, the reservation lives in the trip dashboard automatically. Bookings made outside Weno aren't auto-imported the way TripIt parses inbox emails. If your trip is already booked across several services, TripIt is the better aggregator. If the trip is still being planned, Weno is the better starting point.
Can I use both?
Yes. Many groups use Weno for the group decision and booking stage (finding a stay, voting, splitting the cost) and TripIt or its equivalent for the post-booking itinerary aggregation, especially when flights are booked separately by each traveler.
