Group travel apps in 2026, compared
A practical, up-to-date comparison of the apps groups actually use to plan, book, and split trips — what each one is best at, and where it falls down.
Last updated: May 2026
Most groups end up stitching together two or three of the apps below — one for planning, one for booking, one for splitting. The point of this page is to be honest about which app is good at which job, so you can pick the right combination instead of forcing one tool to do everything.
1. Weno
Best for: End-to-end group trips: plan, vote, book, split
Search, decide, book, and split — in one app. Solo or with friends.
Strengths
- Plan, book, and split in one place
- Cost split happens before the card is charged
- AI-assisted property search across the group's preferences
- Free for travelers
Gaps
- Pre-launch (waitlist) — iOS and Android coming June 2026
- Doesn't aggregate bookings made outside the app
2. Splitwise
Best for: Tracking who owes whom, in or out of travel
The default expense-splitting app. Lightweight, multi-currency, has been around for years.
Strengths
- Mature, trusted, widely adopted
- Multi-currency, simplify-debts logic
- Useful for ongoing household and friend expenses too
Gaps
- Doesn't plan or book trips
- Splits happen after expenses are logged, not as bookings happen
Weno's take: Weno bundles cost-splitting with planning and booking, so the split is computed before money moves.
3. TripIt
Best for: Aggregating already-booked travel into one timeline
The classic itinerary aggregator. Forward your confirmation emails and TripIt builds a single trip timeline.
Strengths
- Excellent at parsing email confirmations from many sources
- Real-time flight alerts and alternate-flight finder (Pro)
- Useful for solo and frequent business travelers
Gaps
- No group planning, voting, or chat
- No cost splitting
- Doesn't search or book stays
Weno's take: Weno handles the planning and booking stage TripIt skips. The two are complementary.
4. Wanderlog
Best for: Collaborative itinerary building and trip notes
A collaborative trip planner with maps, notes, and itinerary days. Strong on visual planning, lighter on booking.
Strengths
- Map-first interface with day-by-day itinerary
- Collaborative editing for groups
- Strong free tier
Gaps
- Booking happens elsewhere
- Cost splitting is basic compared to dedicated tools
Weno's take: Weno is more of a booking tool with planning built in. Wanderlog is more of a planning tool with light booking integration.
5. Spreadsheet + WhatsApp
Best for: Groups that have always done it this way
The default workflow for most groups. Free, flexible, and extremely fragile.
Strengths
- Zero setup
- Everyone already knows how to use it
- Infinite flexibility
Gaps
- The decision dies in the chat thread
- Cost math goes fuzzy by trip end
- No structured voting, deadlines, or accountability
Weno's take: Weno automates the parts of this workflow that consistently break — voting with a deadline, computing the split, and keeping the decision visible.
Which combination should I use?
- Solo, frequent traveler: TripIt for itinerary, Splitwise only if you ever travel with friends.
- Group of 3–5, occasional trips: Weno for planning + booking + splitting. Skip the rest.
- Large group (6+), big rental: Weno for the accommodation booking and per-room split, plus Splitwise for the ongoing in-trip expenses (groceries, taxis).
- Multi-stop itinerary with separate flight bookings: Weno for the trip-level coordination, TripIt for the email-confirmation aggregation.
About this comparison
We're Weno — biased, obviously. We've tried to be honest about where the other apps win, because we use most of them too. If we've got something wrong, email support@weno.travel and we'll fix it.
