How split payment works in Weno: everyone pays their own share

No more one person fronting the whole booking. How Weno lets each traveler pay their own share at checkout, and what happens if plans change.

In most friend trips, one person books the place and puts the whole amount on their card. Then they spend three weeks chasing everyone for their share.

Weno's split payment removes that step. Each traveler pays their own share, with their own card, before the booking is made. Nobody fronts the money and nobody chases anyone.

How it works

  1. The trip admin picks the stay and goes to checkout.
  2. Instead of paying the full amount, they choose Split with travelers.
  3. They choose how to divide the total (more on that below) and start the split.
  4. Everyone in the split gets a notification to pay their share. They pay with their own card.
  5. When every share is paid, Weno books the stay for the whole group.

The admin can see who has paid and send a friendly reminder to anyone who hasn't.

Two ways to divide the cost

Split equally. The total is divided by the number of travelers. Everyone pays the same amount. This is the right choice when everyone shares the same kind of room for the same nights.

Assign rooms. Each room is paid by the specific travelers who sleep in it. The couple in the big room covers the big room; the two friends in the twin cover the twin. This is usually the fairest option for villas and multi-room bookings.

What if someone doesn't pay in time?

Hotel prices are only held for a short time, so a split has to be completed within about half an hour. If not every share is paid in that window, the split is cancelled, nothing is booked, and anyone who already paid gets their money back automatically.

That way no one ends up paying for a booking that never happened.

What happens if the booking is cancelled?

If a split booking is cancelled, each traveler is refunded their own share, back to the card they paid with. The refund follows the hotel's cancellation policy: a fully refundable rate returns everything, a non-refundable rate returns nothing.

If you cancel one room of a multi-room booking, only the people who paid for that room are refunded.

Does splitting cost extra?

No. There is no fee for splitting a booking. Each traveler pays exactly their share of the price.

Paying alone with more than one card

Not traveling with a group, but want to spread a big booking across cards? At checkout you can also choose Pay with multiple cards and split one payment across several of your own cards.

Why we built it this way

We built Weno because our own trips kept dying at the booking step. Someone had to commit the money first, and usually nobody wanted to. Paying your own share up front means the group commits together, at the same moment.
